Municipal Welfare Centre in Bartoszyce, from 12.06.2014 to 30.06.2015, realised a project called ‘THE CLOSE DON’T HURT – THE CLOSE LOVE’, co-financed with the Fund Small Grants Program PL14 ‘Prevention of domestic and gender-based violence’ under the Norwegian Financial Mechanism 2009-2014.

 

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE PROJECT assumed:

reduction of domestic violence within Bartoszyce town throughout series of educational-preventive-informational and infrastructure activities for a group of 70 people and their kin.

 

The project was directed at the following target groups:

1. PARENTS WITH ENVIRONMENTAL RISK OF VIOLENCE (25 people)

2. CHILDREN AND YOUTH TO 18 YEARS OLD (25 people)

3. VICTIMS AND ABUSERS (20 people)

4. DISABILED AND OLDER PEOPLE AFFECTED OR THREATENED BY DOMESTIC VIOLENCE ISSUE (140 people)

5. MERIT PERSONNEL TAKING ACTIONS TO FAMILIES AFFECTED BY OR AT RISK OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE (30 people)

6. PARTICIPANTS OF THE SEMINAR SUMMARIZING PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION (60 people)

7. INDIRECT CONSUMERS

 

During the project we carried out a preventive-educational activities and individual consultations with specialists in various fields, in particular:

 

1) CLASSES CONDUCTED BY A PSYCHOLOGIST as support groups and individual activities. Meetings for victims of domestic violence and people at risk of that. The classes were dedicated to interpersonal references training, increasing self-confidence, building/rebuilding of self-esteem, learning how to isolate from the abuser and how to oppose his aggression, etc.

Resocializing meetings for offender of domestic violence were focused on the cessation of violence in the family, getting awareness of their aggressive behaviours, purchase of basic interpersonal skills, ability to express anger constructively, competence to tackle conflicts without aggression.

 

2) CLASSES WITH EDUCATOR: ‘SCHOOL FOR PARENTS’ in the form of individual and group meetings. Group meetings with the division of gender (in the form of supporting groups for women and men) and activities focused on shaping socially desirable attitudes, acquisition and developing parenting skills and the ability to cope with behavioral difficulties and family problems, e.g. the role of the mother/ father, family relationships, division of duties between the members of the household, bringing up without violence, how to deal with children’s aggression.

 

3) MEETINGS WITH ADDICTION THERAPISTS as group classes and individual consultations. Meetings for abusers of domestic violence and their family members were focused on the prevention of addiction and awareness of the risks and effects of using stimulants and other drugs, acquisition of knowledge about alcoholism.

 

4) MEETINGS WITH LAWYER - group classes and individual meetings, were targeted for legal counseling for victims of domestic violence (legal advices from the Civil Code, Family Code, Guardianship Code, relating to divorce, maintenances, separation, division of property, eviction, help in editing letters to the courts and other institutions, in obtaining informations to which institutions the victims may report to, what kind of support they can receive, what rights they have, etc.).

 

5) GROUP THERAPY CLASSES for 25 people - a group of children and youth from families affected by or at risk of violence, including children using violence against members of their family. Within this group, throughout the duration of the project, they held classes with educator and psychologist, aimed at inculcating positive role models, controlling aggression, preventing development of violence in adulthood and providing mutual support. In addition, there were organized art therapy classes, led by artist and dance therapist.

 

During the project there were organised:

 

1. From 12 to 23 of June 2014. art competition under the slogan ‘The close don’t hurt – the close love’, directed to students of middle schools and high schools througout Bartoszyce. The contest was attended by 31 people. Three of them were awarded and 9 participants received extra awards. All the other entrants received diplomas for their participation. The winning works were used as graphic elements in promotional project’s materials.


2. Therapeutic Workshops for families (two meetings: 03.07.2014 and 26.06.2015 - for 50 people each), aimed at shaping proper domestic relations and strengthening generations (vital) ties. The workshops were consisted of painting, macramé, pottery and wickerwork classes. On 03.07.2014 workshop’s participants were visited by a delegation of social workers from the Department of Côtes d'Armor in France, which was hosted the Warmia and Mazury at the invitation of the Regional Centre of Social Policy in Olsztyn.

3. Family Picnics (two meetings: 29.08.2014 for 220 people and 29.05.2015 for 150 people). Took part in, i.a. project members and their close relatives, charges of Environmental House and members of the Senior Club. During the meetings were organized contests and integration games with gifts and prizes.

4. Specialized course for representatives of the offices taking action to help families affected by or at risk of violence, aimed at acquiring the necessary knowledge enabling a coordinated and comprehensive work with common customer. During the project two editions of the course took place: first one in the end of October 2014, and the second in March 2015. In the training, organized by the Association for the Prevention of Domestic Violence ‘Blue Line, took part in i.a. representatives of the District Police Headquarters, social workers, therapists and family assistants from Municipal Welfare Centre, teachers, medicals, members of the Committee for Solving Alcohol Problems, curators - totally 61 people (including 3 "free listener"). In summation of the first edition of training participated Deputy Mayor of Bartoszyce Aneta Mazur. Together with lecturers – Mrs. Anna Wiechcińska and Mrs. Urszula Podsiadło she handed the certificates of completing the course.


5. Speeches and talks for the participants of Environmental House and their families, members of the Senior Club which is working/acting in the structure of Municipal Welfare Centre and members of NGOs. There were held totally 18 meetings (20 hours), during which the participants had the opportunity to meet with i.e. psychologist, addicion therapist, doctor, prosecutor, probation officer, lawyer and local authorities and uniformed services.

6. Summing up seminar on 06.19.2015 with representatives of local authorities, uniformed services, health services, social welfare centre, NGOs and guests invited from the units dealing with issues of domestic violence from Bartoszyce and province Warmia and Mazury.


According to assumptions of the project were equipped, functioning in the House for the Homeless, a room with sanitary complex for victims of violence (including mothers with small children). There was made fixed joinery, bought the cot with equipment, commode with changing table, bunk bed with equipment, 5 beds, chairs, table, floor covering, roller-blinds.
